Don’t be Ignorant To Such a Great Salvation!

“…how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.” Hebrews 2:3

To most believers, the religious field is treated with apathy. Therefore, compared to other areas of our life and activity, our spiritual life remains inconsistent. Nevertheless, the matter of living our lives as saved people is and shall remain of utmost importance. Here is some food for thought: “ Dante, during his imaginary journey through Hell, encountered a group of lost souls, who were continuously sighing and groaning, while they were spinning around aimlessly through a stuffy air. Virgil, his guide, explained to him that these were people who were miscarried, almost soulless, who, while living on earth did not have enough moral power to be good or bad. They didn’t either earn their praise nor curse. Together with them, sharing the same fate, were angels who didn’t ally either with God or Satan. The writer portrayed the ill fate of those who belong to the weak and half-hearted, suspended forever in a Hell that despised them and from a Heaven that did not receive them to draggle it with their presence.” (A.W.Tozer, Renewed day by day, October 12). Tozer was asking himself whether or whether not what Dante said in his own manner is also what the Lord said to the church in Laodicea: “So because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelations 3:16).

The gravity with which I should treat my walking and ministry according to God’s Word is revealed in Hebrews 2:1 – “We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” Here is described the possibility of casting away from God, the Creator and the Savior of the humanity. What does this alienation consist in? The fact that a strong personal relationship with the Lord was not developed. In the epistle to the Hebrews, there are given some warnings regarding spiritual immaturity (5:12), spiritual laziness (6:11-12) and regarding the spiritual inconsistency (10: 24-25). It is not the ones from outside, but the church, who is told about being careless about such a great salvation. Indifference and disinterest are steps towards apostasy. Those who manifested carelessness and disobedience towards the Law given on Mount Sinai were punished. The punishment is even worse for the ones who heard the good news and treated it with disobedience and indifference. I am called to fight against indolence and negligence, the illnesses of nowadays’ Christians.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I confess that I am guilty of not following you and not serving You with fervor and true love. Please forgive me and help me to rededicate my whole being to You! I want to be consistent in my spiritual life! Please give me an unstoppable enthusiasm in being a testimony of Your Word to the lost ones. Make my spiritual revival be contagious!
